yī一tiān天，huǒ火rè热de的tài太yáng阳zhào照zài在dà大dì地shàng上，tiān天qì气

One day the blazing sun beat down on the earth and it was

rè热jí极le了。hú狐lí狸zǒu走le了hěn很yuǎn远de的lù路，mǎn满tóu头dà大hán汗，

…very hot. The fox had walked a long way and was dripping with sweat,

yòu又è饿yòu又kě渴。tā他yī一biān边zǒu走yī一biān边zì自yán言zì自yǔ语dì地shuō说：

…hungry and thirsty. As he walked he said to himself:

“rú如guǒ果yǒu有chī吃de的hē喝de的，nà那gāi该duō多hǎo好a啊！”

"If only there were something to eat and drink!"

hú狐lí狸zǒu走zhe着zǒu走zhe着，lái来dào到yí一gè个pú葡táo萄yuán园，kàn看

As the fox walked on he came to a vineyard and saw

jiàn见yī一chuàn串chuàn串yòu又dà大yòu又yuán圆de的pú葡táo萄gāo高gāo高dì地guà挂zài在pú葡táo萄

…saw bunches of big round grapes hanging high on the vine

hú狐lí狸chī吃bú不dào到pú葡táo萄，jiù就shuō说pú葡táo萄shì是suān酸de的。

The fox could not reach the grapes and said they were sour.

The fox and the crow

wū乌yā鸦zuǐ嘴lǐ里diāo叼zhe着yī一kuài块ròu肉，fēi飞dào到shù树shàng上，bèi被yī一zhī只gū孤lí狸kàn看jiàn见le了。

A crow with a piece of meat in its beak flew into a tree and was seen by a fox.

gū孤lí狸xīn心lǐ里xiǎng想：“wū乌yā鸦zuǐ嘴lǐ里de的nà那kuài块ròu肉duō多hǎo好a啊！wǒ我yí一dìng定yào要bǎ把tā它nòng弄

The fox thought, "What fine meat in that crow's beak! I must get

dào到shǒu手。”

yú于shì是，hú狐gū孤lí狸pǎo跑dào到shù树xià下，tái抬qǐ起tóu头lái来，zàn赞měi美dào道：“wū乌yā鸦tài太tài太，

So the fox ran to the foot of the tree, looked up and praised her: "Mrs Crow,

nǐ你zhēn真měi美ya呀！nǐ你de的yǎn眼jīng睛nà那me么míng明liàng亮，yǔ羽máo毛nà那me么zhěng整qí齐，shēn身cái材nà那me么hǎo好

…how beautiful you are! Your eyes so bright, your feathers so neat, your figure so fine

kàn看！xiàng相xìn信nǐ你de的gē歌shēng声yě也yí一dìng定fēi非cháng常dòng动tīng听。”

…look at! I am sure your song must be lovely too."

wū乌yā鸦tīng听le了hú狐lí狸de的zàn赞měi美，shí十fēn分dé得yì意，yú于shì是zhāng张zuǐ嘴jiù就chàng唱qǐ起gē歌lái来。

The crow was so pleased by the fox's praise that it opened its beak and began to sing.

kě可shì是，tā她gāng刚yī一kāi开kǒu口，zuǐ嘴lǐ里de的ròu肉jiù就diào掉xià下qù去le了。

But the moment she opened her beak the meat fell out.

gū孤lí狸lì立kè刻zhāng张kāi开dà大zuǐ嘴，jiē接zhù住diào掉xià下lái来de的ròu肉，bǎ把tā它tūn吞dào到le了dǔ肚zi子

The fox at once opened wide, caught the falling meat and swallowed it

lǐ里，rán然hòu后shuō说：“xiè谢xiè谢nǐ你，qīn亲ài爱de的wū乌yā鸦tài太tài太。qí其shí实nǐ你zhǎng长dé得bìng并bù不

…then said, "Thank you, dear Mrs Crow. In truth you are not

měi美，nǐ你de的gē歌shēng声yě也bìng并bù不hǎo好tīng听，bù不guò过，zhè这kuài块ròu肉dǎo倒shì是hěn很hǎo好chī吃！”shuō说

…beautiful, and your singing is not lovely either — but this meat is very good!" With

wán完，hú狐lí狸dà大xiào笑zhe着zǒu走kāi开le了。yā鸦tīng听le了，qì气dé得shuō说bù不chū出huà话lái来。

…With that the fox walked off laughing. The crow was too angry to speak.
