课本的生字表没能从扫描件上读出来，下面是这一课第一次出现的字。 The book's own 生字 list could not be read for this lesson; these are the characters it introduces.

13. 规（guī） What does it mean?

    variant of 規|规[gui1] left; the Left (politics); east power; force; strength variant of 構|构[gou4]; (Tw) (coll.) variant of 夠|够[gou4]; to reach by stretching

14. 则（zé） What does it mean?

    (formal) and; together with (linking parallel nouns, verbs, or phrases); (formal) with; from (marking the other participant in an interaction, comparison, or contrast, e.g. 與他握手|与他握手[yu3 ta1 wo4 shou3] "shake hands with him", 與去年不同|与去年不同[yu3 qu4 nian2 bu4 tong2] "different from last year"); (literary) to give; to grant; to bestow like; same; similar (literary) (conjunction used to express contrast with a previous clause) but; then; (bound form) standard; norm; (bound form) principle to press; to push; to leave aside or shelve

17. 擦（cā） What does it mean?

    to follow; from; because of; due to (bound form) right; right-hand side; (bound form) (politics) right of center; (bound form) (old) west to rub; to scratch; to wipe; to polish; to apply (lipstick, lotion etc) face; side; surface

18. 豆（dòu） What does it mean?

    (literary) (conjunction used to express contrast with a previous clause) but; then; (bound form) standard; norm; (bound form) principle variant of 雜|杂[za2] power; force; strength legume; pulse; bean; pea (variant of 豆[dou4])
